Parsons School of Design\u2019s Street Seats returns to Greenwich Village, providing a sustainably designed temporary public space on the northeast corner of 13th Street and 5th Avenue. Launched in 2015, the project is an opportunity for students from the School of Constructed Environments to design and build an outdoor space for our neighbors to sit, eat, people-watch, and socialize.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In creating this year\u2019s Street Seats, the design team worked to address the three pillars of sustainability\u2014environmental, social, and economic\u2014and used feedback from the community to inform the design and provide a welcoming space for all our neighbors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seating area is crafted primarily from wood and a wood-engineered product called oriented strand board (OSB), which is manufactured using smaller, faster-growing, regionally located trees to limit carbon footprint. Taffeta material was upcycled to create the fabric canopy, and the stool toppers were created using cork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
