On July 23, 2023, New University in Exile Consortium<\/a> colleague, Azerbaijani economist, Dr. Gubad Ibadoghlu<\/a>, was unjustly arrested during a visit to Baku. He has been kept in detention under extremely difficult conditions ever since. This webinar is meant to call attention to this great injustice and press for Dr. Ibadoghlu\u2019s immediate release, as well as to call attention to the many other scholars and human rights activists currently imprisoned around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This seminar will provide a comprehensive analysis of the steps taken to improve quality and drive transformation in Afghanistan\u2019s higher education sector over the last two decades and before the 2021 takeover of the Taliban. Beginning with the historical context of the Soviet occupation of Afghanistan and tracing the advancements, setbacks, and changes following the Taliban takeover and U.S. invasion, the course takes a socio-historical approach to examine the past, present, and future of higher education in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
