Check back in Fall 2021 for information regarding the 2022 cycle.<\/h3>\n<h2><strong>Internship Information<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Up to two students will receive the Tishman Environmental Merit Scholarship to fund their internship experience.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Awardees Receive<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$4,000 stipend to cover round-trip airfare from NYC to Anchorage, Alaska and living expenses<\/li>\n<li>Housing assistance co-arranged with your host institution<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Prerequisites<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong interest in environmental protection and the ecology and culture of Alaska<\/li>\n<li>Preferred sophomore or junior status<\/li>\n<li>No grades of F, Z, or incomplete at the time of application<\/li>\n<li>Prior completion, with grades of B or better, of at least two Environmental Studies or related courses<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Academic Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pre-departure readings and meetings with faculty<\/li>\n<li>12-week summer internship in Alaska<\/li>\n<li>*<em>Environmental Studies majors may register this internship for up to 2 credits and\/or apply the experience to their ES Internship requirement; please contact Christina McElderry, the Environmental Studies Advisor, at clmcelderry@newschool.edu for details.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>A complete application should include the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Application form (link will be made public in Fall 2019)<\/li>\n<li>Two 250-word essays as described in the Application form<\/li>\n<li>R\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/li>\n<li>Transcripts (unofficial is acceptable) of college coursework to date<\/li>\n<li>Academic writing sample (a recent term paper or similar project)<\/li>\n<li>Letters of recommendation from two faculty members<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong style=\"font-size: inherit\">How to Apply<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The Summer 2020-Summer 2021 application cycle is now closed. Undergraduate sophomores and juniors are encouraged to apply. Students who are expecting to graduate the semester before the summer internship (for example, in May), or who have already graduated, or who are graduate students at The New School, are not eligible.<br \/>\n\n        <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/li><\/p>\n<p><li class=\"m-drawers__item\" role=\"tab\" tabindex=\"0\" data-accordion-item=\"\"><a class=\"m-drawers__toggle\" href=\"#\" aria-controls=\"105a78e0810d3e8ff760e39a1db80d1a-accordion\" role=\"tab\" id=\"105a78e0810d3e8ff760e39a1db80d1a-accordion-label\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-selected=\"false\"><span>Q: What kind of work will I be doing if I am accepted as an intern?<\/span><\/a><div class=\"m-drawers__toggle-wrapper\" role=\"tabpanel\" aria-labelledby=\"105a78e0810d3e8ff760e39a1db80d1a-accordion-label\" data-tab-content=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\" id=\"105a78e0810d3e8ff760e39a1db80d1a-accordion\" style=\"display: none;\">\n        <div class=\"m-drawers__content\">\n          <\/p>\n<p>A: Interns will work on one or more projects, some of which they will have full responsibility for. Usually, a discussion is held online before the intern arrives in Alaska, and continues in the first days there about what the organization needs that fits with the intern&#8217;s skills and interests. The selection of who goes to what organization is also discussed and decided at this time.
