Conversations With Alumni"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On October 4, 2017,\u00a0 Memory Studies Group &amp; TCDS hosted<span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Sociology alum and founding member of the New School Memory Group, Amy Sodaro. She discussed her research on the 9\/11 Memorial Museum and reflected on her time at the New School.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Amy Sodarois now an Associate Professor of Sociology at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. She received her PhD in Sociology in 2011, focusing on cultural sociology and memory studies. Her dissertation, \u201cExhibiting Atrocity: Presentation of the Past in Memorial Museums\u201d was under the supervision of Jeffrey Goldfarb, Elzbieta Matynia, and the late Vera Zolberg. Sodaro has taught sociology, cultural studies and genocide studies, and her research focuses on memory and memorialization of violence and atrocity. She has published several chapters and articles on memorial museums, including the US Holocaust Memorial Museum, the House of Terror in Budapest, the Jewish Museum in Berlin, the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center in Rwanda and the 9\/11 Museum. She co-edited <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Memory and the Future: Transnational Politics, Ethics and Culture<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, along with New School alumni Yifat Gutman and Adam Brown) and is the author of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Exhibiting Atrocity: Memorial Museums and the Politics of Past Violence<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On October 4, 2017,\u00a0 Memory Studies Group &amp; TCDS hosted Sociology alum and founding member of the New School Memory Group, Amy Sodaro.
