{"id":348,"date":"2020-09-28T16:03:36","date_gmt":"2020-09-28T16:03:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs-test.newschool.edu\/memorystudiestns\/?p=348"},"modified":"2020-10-29T16:33:46","modified_gmt":"2020-10-29T16:33:46","slug":"webinar-narrating-conflicts-in-post-truth-era-facing-revisionist-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs-test.newschool.edu\/memorystudiestns\/2020\/09\/28\/webinar-narrating-conflicts-in-post-truth-era-facing-revisionist-russia\/","title":{"rendered":"WEBINAR | Narrating Conflicts in Post-Truth Era: Facing Revisionist Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday,\u00a0October\u00a07,\u00a02020,\u00a011:00AM\u00a0to\u00a01:00PM\u00a0(EDT)<\/p>\n<p>The <em><strong>Narrating Conflicts in Post-Truth Era, Facing Revisionist Russia: Ukraine and Georgia in comparative perspective<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0webinar will address the instrumentalization of the historical past and populist claims to historical truth that reached \u2018new heights\u2019 in a world characterized as the \u2018post-truth era.\u2019 The speakers will discuss the Russian President Vladimir Putin\u2019s populist justifications of the historical reasons for the \u2018Russian-Georgian War\u2019 in August of 2008, the Russian-Ukrainian conflicts in Donbas and Luhansk regions, and the annexation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea by Russia.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Panelists Malkhaz Toria\u00a0<\/strong>and<strong>\u00a0Mykola Balaban<\/strong>, Global Dialogues 2016 Fellows at the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies (TCDS), will base the webinar talk on their upcoming publication on the same topic, which will appear in the edited volume\u00a0<em>History as an Instrument of the Contemporary International Conflicts<\/em>\u00a0edited by Jan Rydel within the series issued by the European Network of Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS).* The panel will be moderated by prof.
