The starting point of the discussion will be a consideration of the \u201cOpen Letter in Defense of Democracy<\/a>\u201d organized by the late Todd Gitliln, Isaac and Kristol, and a discussion of what needs to be done now in light of recent developments, foreign and domestic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

E. J. Dionne Jr. <\/strong>is a syndicated columnist for the Washington Post<\/em>, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, university professor at Georgetown University’s McCourt School of Public Policy, and a visiting professor at Harvard University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jeffrey C. Isaac <\/strong>is James H. Rudy Professor of Political Science at Indiana University, Bloomington. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

William Kristol<\/strong> is a founding director of Defending Democracy Together, an educational and advocacy organization dedicated to defending America\u2019s liberal democratic norms, principles, and institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Claire Potter<\/strong> is a Professor of History at The New School for Social Research and co-executive Editor of Public Seminar<\/em><\/a>, a digital magazine of politics and culture based at The New School. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
